Charles is recognised as one of the world’s foremost rules experts and he was the first UK professional to be invited to officiate at a USPGA event, the PGA Championship at Oakhill in 2003. He has also officiated at the 2002 and 2006 Ryder Cup events held at The Belfry and the ‘K’ Club respectively.

Charles was born in Cambridge and represented England at Boy and Youth international levels. He turned professional in 1973 and played on the European Tour from 1976 – 1981, during which time he won the North of England Championship in 1978.

He moved to Scotland in 1980 and was the professional at Buchanan Castle and Banchory golf clubs prior to becoming professional at Blairgowrie in December 1997. Charles was captain of the Scottish PGA 1990 – 1991 and he was also the presenter of “Rules Section” on the Sky TV show, “Get Your Handicap Down”

 

 

Charles Dernie - Honorary Professional

Charles receives his appointment from Club Captain Bonar Watson with Vice Captain Lawrence Rutherford looking on.

The Royal Perth club appointed Charles Dernie as honorary professional in April 2007. He is currently the club professional at The Blairgowrie Golf Club and is one of the most respected golf professionals in Scotland. His duties with Royal Perth are largely ceremonial but he is on hand to lend his considerable expertise if required.
